The Lighthouse after Sunset #2
Palon Duro Canyon
Whenever I’m passing through the panhandle – usually on my way to Colorado, I always camp for a night in Palo Duro Canyon both coming and going. Though photographed by most, I still love to visit and explore new views around the iconic Lighthouse. Comprised of sandstone and shale, this hoodoo rises 310’ in the air and is one of the most well-known sights in the state park.
This image is a stitch of several photos to create a detailed, high-resolution panorama in an attempt to show the rugged beauty that awaits anyone who makes the relatively easy 3-mile walk (one-way) to reach this area. I enjoy staying well past sunset, as well. Usually, I have the place to myself, and the walk back to the trailhead is peaceful and quiet. The only sounds heard are often the coyotes somewhere in the canyon.
