Symi Island is part of the Dodecanese chain of islands, and sits 25 miles (41km) northwest of Rhodes. It consists of about 22 square miles of rugged mountains, and the coast offers a smattering of beautiful and secluded beaches. It's name purportedly comes from the nymph Syme of Greek mythology. The island was also mentioned in Homer's Illiad, and has been part of both the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire over the last two-thousand years. Photo © copyright by Rob Greebon.
