Sunflowers under the Milky Way in Summer 3

Rollins Pass

Sunflowers sleep under the Milky Way at 11,700’ atop Rollins Pass. In early July the Milky Way rolls across the night sky in the hours before dawn. In this image, the Milky Way was taken with a star tracker and the exposure was around 3 minutes. The sunflowers in the image, also known as Old Man of the Mountain, were taken about 40 minutes before down. The two separate images were blended together to show what our eye can see but the camera cannot capture in a single exposure.
