As one of the oldest of the Painted Churches in Texas, St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in Praha was built in 1895. As you enter the front doors, there is a lifesize bust of the crucified Christ that can be quite startling if you are not prepared for it. Further inside, the beauty of this historic gem comes to life with shades of bright and pastel colors painted by Gottfried Flury, a Swiss-born artist. Outside, a brave man who put crosses on churches as a job climbed up 130 feet and placed the cross atop the parish. His payment? A keg of beer! Photo © copyright by Rob Greebon.
