This panorama of the Mount of the Holy Cross (14,005') was taken on a perfect summer morning. From the saddle leading up to Notch Mountain at approximately 13,100', the cross can be seen across the valley. William Jackson first photographed the cross in 1873, and soon the climb became a journey for religious pilgrims. In the 1930s, the CCC built a shelter at this location to house those making the hike up.
