Big Bend National Park
On a quiet Spring morning in Big Bend National Park, the sleepy prickly pear cacti's blooms began to open with the first light of morning. Rising into the dawn in the distance, the Mule Ears were visible from my precarious perch a few miles away. I had scouted this prickly pear cacti the day before, but was a bit worried these golden flowers would wait to show their colors after the sunrise colors had faded (these blooms close up at night), but several began to open and their yellow vibrance finally appeared. Of courses, some of the blooms preferred to sleep a bit longer, but it was a beautiful morning nonethless. Photo © copyright by Rob Greebon.
