Under blue skies, the Fort Worth, Texas, skyline rises into the cool Autumn air. While both older and modern buildings make up the downtown area, the city is filled with western history. On June 6, 1849, Camp Worth was established along theTrinity River. This camp later became Fort Worth and served as protection from the local Indian tribes along the frontier. At the time, Fort Worth was known as the "gateway to the west," and it still retains that motto today.
