Waco sits along I-35 midway between Austin and Dallas. As the home of Baylor University, the city offers outdoor activities, cultural diversity, and a beautiful college campus. The photography presented in this gallery shows some of my favorite images in my time spent exploring this mid-sized town. Here are a few of those locations:
The Waco Riverwalk – The oldest portions of Waco’s Riverwalk were built in the 1970s and 80s. Today, ongoing construction seeks to update, improve, and add onto the Riverwalk Trail that runs alongside the Brazos River that connects Cameron Park to the Baylor University campus.
Waco Bridges – Just west of I-35, several bridges span the Brazos River. Two of the most historic include the Waco Suspension Bridge (opened in 1902) and the Washington Avenue Bridge (opened in 1869). Today, these bridges still allow both motorists and pedestrians to cross the Brazos. The I-35 Bridges flanking the interstate are another vibrant addition to the area and light up each night in various colors.
McLane Stadium and the Baylor Campus – East of I-35, the Baylor Bears play their football games on the north side of the Brazos River at McLane Stadium (opened in 2014). The beautiful Sheila and Walter Umphrey Pedestrian Bridge connects the Baylor campus to the stadium.
