A Travel Photo Guide for Austin, Texas

At the outset of this project, I was given a list of over 100 locations around Austin to shoot. Even though I've lived here for a long time (it is still Town Lake to me - not Ladybird Lake!), I did not recognize over 50% of these locations. So this has been a fun and educational experience for me.

Folks have asked what my favorite places were. That's hard to say because it really depends on your interest. I tend to enjoy history, and I thoroughly enjoyed three places related to this topic:

The Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry

The Texas State Cemetery in east Austin (just east of the state capitol)

The Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farms - northeast of Austin

Other locations around Austin that my writer and I found interesting include:

Zilker Botanical Gardens - beautifully manicured gardens of wildflowers, trees, ponds of fish, and quiet trails located near downtown Austin (and easy on the budget, as well).

McKinney Falls State Park - A little crowded when I was there during the day, but I mornings and evenings are can be relaxing - and a nice getaway from downtown Austin. I'm much more familiar with the state parks in the hill country, including Pedernales Falls and Enchanted Rock, but will be returning to McKinney Falls.
