From late May through early July, parts of Iceland turn blue under a bloom of lupine (Úlfabaunir - "Wolf Flower" in Icelandic). These wildflowers spread down from slopes of high mountains to the shorelines of the Atlantic Ocean. For photographers, these blooms are a dream. However, some consider the lupine to be an invasive species. The wildflower were brought in to help control erosion in 1945 from Alaska. Now, they take over each summer, coloring a good portion of the country blue and purple.
